Many tell her that she's lucky to have been gifted with such intelligence. Whenever someone tells her that Elle gets slightly annoyed because all she did was work hard and study. All throughout her life Ellen's parents pushed her to do the best she could do and encouraged excellence; Ellen met their expectations and formed a great work ethic. Most of her adult life has been devoted to her job and teaching students everything she can about world history and global affairs. At times this intense determination creates problems in her personal life. Ellen was taught to cherish life because it has infinite value. That was one of the greatest lessons her father taught her. Whenever she hears about a human rights violation she gets extremely upset, and she can't stand superiority. Some say she has a gentle heart, but she simply says she's right. There is no way she'll stand up in class and water down the Chinese Communist Revolution, Holocaust, or the Rape of Nanjing. Ellen believes in teaching the truth, not what people wished the truth was. Docile and demure are words that are not in her vocabulary. She is fiercely loyal, and would be willing to die for people who are close to her. The bravery she demonstrates in her daily life proves that she is not willing to sit and watch injustice happen. That does not mean she is stupid. Ellen understands when to sit back and be patient and when to fight. History: On the sixth of March, Ellen Elizabeth Watson was born to Marcus and Alyssa Watson in New York, New York. The couple had wanted a child ever since they got married, and for the longest time they couldn't conceive. When Alyssa found out she was pregnant with Ellen she was ecstatic. The moment their little girl came into the world her parents fell in love with her. Marcus and Alyssa decided to name her after Alyssa's mother. A few years after Ellen was born, the couple had another girl named Ena. For the most part, the young girl's early childhood was full of love and attention. As she grew older, she began to find her own identity. Physically she took very much after her mother, but she was much more verbal and open minded than anyone else in her family. Even as a toddler Ellen loved to talk and boss people around; she never did anything harmful except for tire out her parents from chatter. Her family and friends all knew she was going to be a handful when she became a teenager. To try and expose their daughter to the performing arts, her parents invested in piano lessons when she was a young girl. She hated them with a raging passion at first, but as she got better at the instrument, she grew to love it. Starting school was difficult for the young girl. She wasn't used to being in a contained setting, and she had to learn to sit still and be quiet. Academically, it was quite obvious she was above the other students. Ellen caught onto ideas and concepts a lot faster than most, and her language skills were sky high. During her early childhood, she met and befriended John Copland who lived in the apartment next to her. They were inseparable, and whenever Ena tried to hang out with them, Ellen would get a bit annoyed. Everyone joked that one day John and Ellen would get married, and he was actually her 'first' kiss. The two of them attended elementary school together, and Ellen used to get in trouble for talking or moving around in her seat too much. The time passed quickly, and soon Ellen was in middle school. Being able to move from class to class and taking subjects from different teachers was definitely easier for her. In high school Ellen's parents sent her away to one of the best private Catholic schools in the city, the Loyola School. John also attended school with her, and although the two of them remained close friends, he was much more popular than her. To pass the time, she joined the cross country team and ran a relatively decent time at her meets, but most of her dedication was in her studies. There was nothing she wanted more than to attend Yale University, and she knew that the acceptance rate was very small. Despite the fact she was gifted in English and History, she struggled through her math and science courses. Her aptitude in English and History wasn't really surprising considering her father was a history professor at New York University, and her mother was a journalist. She spent a lot of time at home watching the political debates and following the news every night with her parents. When Ellen was in high school, her sister began acting out. It was quite clear that Ellen was the 'golden child' of the two, and Ena wasn't. Instead of trying to better herself, Ena behaved poorly and disrespected her parents. She left the house late at night to hang around boys or her friends. Eventually, Ellen's parents told her to look after her sister and make sure she didn't get herself into severe trouble or pregnant. Hesitantly, Ellen agreed to do this. When senior year came around she made sure to apply to at least five colleges, marking Yale as her number one choice. Many of her friends doubted that she'd get in, and much to her surprise the college accepted her. After the summer was up she packed her bags and moved to Connecticut so she could attend the college of her dreams. At first, she wanted to major in political sciences, but midway through she decided to switch to Global Affairs. Politics didn't feel like the right career path for her, and the minute she switched to Global she was much more comfortable. Her college life was spent studying, and she was actually rather socially reclusive. Ellen didn't want to distract herself with relationships and lose her scholarships or fail a course. Unlike some of the other students, she couldn't afford to pay to take a class again. She managed to stay in contact with John who had followed in his family's footsteps and attended Harvard. In her senior year, she met her future husband. They met in an Economics class, and his name was Gabriel Andrews. He sat next to her during the lecture, and when it was finished he asked if she understood anything. After that, she agreed to help him study. From that friendship, came romance. Once Ellen achieved her doctorate degree, he asked her to marry him and she said yes. Their wedding was small and intimate. One year after graduation Ellen applied for a teaching assistant position at Yale. It was narrowed down to her and another woman, but in the end she got the job. Teaching as an assistant was a love hate relationship for Ellen; she hated not being able to plan her own lessons, but she learned so much by assisting. After five years of teaching she applied for a job as the International Relations Professor, and she got it. Again, Ellen didn't absolutely love her job as a professor, but she managed. Not long after she started working at her new position, Gabriel started talking about having children. Ellen was hesitant because this was lead her further down the path to a conventional lifestyle. Eventually, she agreed, but much to the couple's dismay, she had trouble conceiving. After months of trying with no luck, Ellen made an appointment to see what was wrong. The doctor unfortunately brought them the bad news that Ellen had fertility issues, and her chance of conception was incredibly low. The couple hit a bit of a block at that point in their relationship until Ellen suggested adopting. Gabe was hesitant, but he decided an adopted child was better than no child at all. Within the next year, they welcomed Victoria Grace into their family, named after Queen Victoria. About three years after Vic, John came back into her life. He was married to a woman named Diana and they had two children named Andrew and Abigale. Unfortunately, after Abigale was born, Diana could no longer have children. John asked Ellen to donate an egg to be implanted in his wife so they could have one more child. The woman talked to her husband (who didn't like the idea,) but after convincing him that it was a good idea, she went ahead and did it. Four years after they got Victoria, a miracle occurred, and Ellen found herself pregnant. On September 19, Natalie Charlotte Andromeda Andrews was born. There was something wonderful about holding her own baby girl in her arms despite the fact she loved Vic equally, and it is easily one of the happiest moments in Ellen's life. Three years after Nat's birth, Ellen was pregnant again with another child which they named Marcus after Ellen's father. Life seemed to be blissful for the family, however, things took a left hand turn for the perfect, loving couple. A couple years after Marcus was born, Ellen piled herself with work and began estranging herself from Gabriel. She was not happy at the fact he was treating Victoria with such scorn, and hated him for sending her away to boarding school all the way in England. Frustrated with his wife's lack of affection, Gabriel cheated on Ellen with a much younger woman. When Ellen caught them together the whole thing blew up. After much fighting, the couple decided to stay married even though this had happened. Everything appeared to be fixed, but it wasn't. Ellen still didn't spend anymore time with her spouse, and instead of an affair he turned to alcohol. Frustrated at this, Ellen estranged herself even further from him; the two of them were practically sleeping in separate beds at the point. To take her mind off of the stress, Ellen drove into the city one night to watch a well reviewed performance of Macbeth. When she arrived there, she ran into a familiar face: Lawson Andrews, her husband's brother. The two of them met at family functions and got along well, so when they discovered their seats were next to each other it was a pleasant coincidence. After the show, the two of them went out for drinks and began chatting. One drink too many and shameless flirting turned into a night of passion. When Ellen woke up next to him, she immediately felt guilty, and the two of them decided never to speak of it again. Her own affair only led her to feel like a hypocrite. After all she had just fought about fidelity with her husband, and she went ahead and cheated on him after calling him out. Elle gave him the cold shoulder and avoided him like the plague, and then one night the whole entire situation exploded. Ellen told him she was going to leave if he didn't stop drinking so much, and this led to a rather loud, drawn out argument which ended in Gabriel slapping Ellen. Terrified that he would abuse their children, Ellen packed her bags the next day while Gabe was at work and left. Ellen moved back to New York City with her children and got herself a decent sized apartment. The move wasn't going to be permanent, but she needed to get back on her feet again in a familiar atmosphere. For a few years she stayed in New York teaching several night classes at New York University, but she didn't want to continue on raising her children in a city atmosphere. With the help of some friends she found out about an opening at an excellent private school in Rhode Island. After years of teaching there, she ran into Lawson who was now teaching there. At first, she just wanted him to stay out of her life. Ellen did not want to open old wounds. But the two always managed to be in the same place and the same time, so it was impossible to ignore him. Long story short, they fell in love with each other. After months of dating, she fell pregnant with his child, only to lose it in a miscarriage. Ellen suffered from severe depression after that. She shut down emotionally. Lawson saw this, and suggested they go away on vacation. They went to Paris where he proposed to her. She accepted, feeling a little bit of life come back into her.
